Crane Beach & Ipswich Bay
Ipswich is home to one of the most beautiful natural beaches in all of New England. Great for boating, sea kayaking, hiking, fishing, whale and bird watching. We especially like hiking the dunes behind the beach. This is a trusties of reservations property, and there is a parking charge at the gate.
Historic Properties
Ipswich has more first period (1625-1725) homes than any other place in America and one of the oldest standing stone arch bridges in the country.
Food & Dining
Ipswich and Essex (next town to the south) feature a great variety of quality dining establishments. To name a few,
IPSWICH:
Ithaki - great authentic Greek quisine
Zabaglione Restaurante (+ Cafe) - quality Italian dining, 50 meters from Kaede
Clam Box - THE PLACE to get your fix of fried clams among other delights
The Choate Bridge Pub - great local pub atmosphere just outside our door yard (50 meters away)
The Riverview - Polish Pizza? And beer. Best greasy spoon I know in this COUNTRY!
1640 Hart House - Olde New England atmosphere, great fireplaces, great food, awesome desserts
ESSEX:
The Village - Has been there forever, quality seafood
Woodman’s - pick your own lobster out of the pen, eat in the rough
Periwinkles - Seafood, tasteful small restaurant
Farnham’s - Another famous clam shack, picturesque spot!
Essex Seafood - If you have driven this far past the downtown, well worth a stop!
And there are more, I certainly don’t wish to slight anybody by leaving them off!
HIKING & BIKING
Plenty of places to ride the bikes, and we have a nice spot out behind the building to put them in case it rains. We have plenty of bike maps that can send you out for a few minutes or all day. There are some great places to hike too. We highly recommend the dunes behind Crane Beach as well as Appleton Farms, Willowdale State Park, and the Audobon Sanctuary just down Topsfield Road. There are also many shorter walks through the woods, sands and salt marshes that give Ipswich its rich natural environment.
Visit the Ipswich Chamber of Commerce for more about local attractions.
